Street Photography at Night Meetup

Street Photography at Night Meetup

Saturday 27 July
1 John Nolen Drive - 6pm - 2 Hours
Joel Ramsey
Street photography encompasses a wide range of genres, and this week we'll be exploring the town at night.

At this meetup, we will practise the basics of shooting in a dark environment as we capture candid images in an urban setting.

By the end of this event, you will be more familiar with:
- How to adjust camera settings for low light.
- Using slow shutter speeds to get brighter images and create light trails.
- Capturing RAW images.
- Guidelines for shooting other people and their property in the real world.

Helpful. Not exactly what I needed to know, but I appreciated the unsolicited advice as well as the opportunity to ask some questions.

Joel is very knowledgeable. The group was small size so I felt individual attention and all my questions could be answered. I will continue to take further classes in the future after this great first experience.

Enjoyed the session. Small group and personal attention was great. I liked that we moved around from Monona Terrace to downtown around the capital and State Street. Joel and son were great. Joel reached out to confirm prior to the meeting which also was nice.

The class really opened up my ability to do more with my camera taking it off of auto mode means I have to do a lot more work, but the more I understand the more artistic I can become.

Title or Location: Capitol building during Street photography class
This was my second class with Madison Photography Group and Joel Ramsey. After discussing transitioning to mirrorless during the first class, ( was really just looking for an excuse) I went ahead and bought my Nikon Zfc. This was my first day shooting with it and exploring the camera as well as the city. I am always intrigued by the capitol building. I will always appreciate a picture of it.

Danae had been bucked off her horse, Hawk, moments before this photo was taken. He was cranky from getting a bath earlier in the day, but calmed down when we brought him to a pasture where his best friend Magic was penned very close by. I used a 35 mm lens on my Nikon D750 at f16 to get the sun ray spikes.

This photo was taken after cruising into Olden and taking the Loen Skylift, at the top of which are many trails. We took one away from the crowd and came across this little stream which lined up nicely with what I expect is it's destination. Taken on a Sony RX10IV

Photo was taken in August of 2023 near the San Juan Islands north west of Seattle. We were following a family of Orca who we believe were teaching their young how to hunt. This photo was of an orca in pursuit of a porpoise. I actually have two other photos of the live pursuit with the orca tracking down and catching the porpoise. I would be happy to provide those as well if you?d like.
