Come along to our photo sessions to dust off your camera and get snap-happy with a professional photography instructor.

Brush up on your camera skills and learn new photography techniques whilst on a photo walk class with other local keen photographers!

We run two hour photography sessions based on a photography theme/technique/style and they take place in various locations in Madison .

  • New to photography? We also run a popular 3 hour Beginners Guide to Photography Class once a month. And once in a while we will run special niche 3 hour classes, for example, Astrophotography - so do subscribe to our newsletter to know when the next on is!

  • Who can attend? Open to all skill levels, from beginners to keen amateurs. The photography instructor is there to help you with camera settings and provide any advice you need.

  • What to bring? We recommend bringing a camera that has full manual mode or semi-manual modes (Aperture or Shutter Priority). Compact cameras and smartphones also welcome!

Helpful. Not exactly what I needed to know, but I appreciated the unsolicited advice as well as the opportunity to ask some questions.

Joel is very knowledgeable. The group was small size so I felt individual attention and all my questions could be answered. I will continue to take further classes in the future after this great first experience.

Enjoyed the session. Small group and personal attention was great. I liked that we moved around from Monona Terrace to downtown around the capital and State Street. Joel and son were great. Joel reached out to confirm prior to the meeting which also was nice.

The class really opened up my ability to do more with my camera taking it off of auto mode means I have to do a lot more work, but the more I understand the more artistic I can become.

This was my second class with Madison Photography Group and Joel Ramsey. After discussing transitioning to mirrorless during the first class, ( was really just looking for an excuse) I went ahead and bought my Nikon Zfc. This was my first day shooting with it and exploring the camera as well as the city. I am always intrigued by the capitol building. I will always appreciate a picture of it.

Danae had been bucked off her horse, Hawk, moments before this photo was taken. He was cranky from getting a bath earlier in the day, but calmed down when we brought him to a pasture where his best friend Magic was penned very close by. I used a 35 mm lens on my Nikon D750 at f16 to get the sun ray spikes.

This shot was taken on my first day into this trip. My wife and I decided to spend Labor Day weekend in the mountains which was wonderful but also very busy which isn't the best for wildlife photography. However, I did come away with some good shots from my outing (mostly landscape) and this is by far one of my favorite. I love how the light is striking the deer's face while he is mostly shrouded in shadow. I took this with a Nikon 200-500mm @ 500, 1/160s, ISO 100 and f6.3. I shot this across th

Was out looking for anything to photograph on one my few days off from work. So I went to the plot of land where I deer hunt. Any wild flower that may still be in bloom, insects, things like that. Tons of grasshoppers everywhere and I came across this fella. I didn't realize he possibly had a wounded left wing until I processed the photos. No wonder he sat thru many different angles, exposures, and me getting up in his face and didn't offer to fly off. I saw the sky start to get some color after looking too overcast. I grabbed my gear and went down to the road behind where I live. I had gotten a few shots of the headlights going the other way and it was too much of a contrast with the sky. I got set up, with the camera low to the ground and got a couple test shots. Then shot this at 5 seconds.

Upon discovering this site, I couldn't help but express my astonishment in a hushed whisper, "Oh my goodness!" My attention was so captivated by the lighting that I failed to notice the presence of a fawn in the frame.
